The origin of the MoB
Hi. My name is Paolo Alessandro Vargas (people call me Alesso), and I am an entrepreneur, based in Ottawa. I was a 16 year-old recipient of the Summer Company Program grant from the Government of Ontario, to start my own business, which I used to kickstart the Ministry of Buttons, a company that specializes in collectible and promotional pinback buttons.
The Ministry of Buttons has an interesting origin. It started as a high school project, when I joined the entrepreneurship class. I was one of the three students selected to run a business within the school.
At home we already had a button press that we used from time to time, so I decided to use it to create a small button company.
During this time I discovered the Summer Company grant, a provincial grant for young entrepreneurs.
After applying and being accepted into the Summer Company program, the Ministry of Buttons opened for business!
